2009 edition of the L’Oréal Italy Awards for Women and Science
In March, for the seventh consecutive year, the 2009 edition of the “L’Oréal Italy Awards for Women and Science” was held. Promoted by L’Oréal Italy in partnership with the Italian National Commission for UNESCO, the Awards aim to support and encourage young Italian women who make a contribution to scientific progress. Among the hundreds of applications received from all over Italy, the jury selected the 5 most meritworthy candidates:
Anna Olivieri – geneticist (University of Pavia),
Luisa Ostorero – astrophysicist (University of Turin),
Valeria Righi – chemist (Università of Modena and Reggio Emilia),
Cristina Ronchi – endocrinologist (University of Milano),
Elisabetta Versace – psychologist (University of Milano Bicocca).
The 5 young women scientists each received a study allowance to the value of 15,000 Euros to undertake their own research programme in the area of Life and Earth Sciences.
