In Liberia, all-women UN peace unit inspires locals
The 103 Indian women who went to Liberia's capital this year to form the United Nations' very first all-female peacekeeping unit "have quickly become part of Monrovia's urban landscape," The Christian Science Monitor reports. These peacekeepers, in Liberia to help stabilize the West African country as it recovers from civil war, carry out duties such as patrolling the streets and guarding the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and also are inspiring local women to become police officers.
